Capitol Early Music presents:
Celebrating its 35th season, the Peabody Renaissance Ensemble joins forces with the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company and the Baltimore Baroque Band to present music and scenes from Shakespeare and excerpts from Purcell’s Tempest.
Every five years the Peabody Renaissance Ensemble travels to Washington to share its musicianship and creativity with our community. Mark Cudek, founder and director of the Ensemble, retires at the end of next season. So, this is his final visit to Washington with the Ensemble.
During these workshops we will play and discuss tunes from the “Ukrainian Fiddle Tunes for Two” series. For the most part different tunes will be played at each session. A treble clef version of the sheet music for the tunes being played will be displayed on Zoom’s screen during the workshop. The cost for each workshop is $10.00. The cost of each optional book is $15.00 (includes shipping within the U.S. if ordered with workshop registration).

With: Claudia Gantívar
Claudia holds a Master of Arts in Recorder Performance from the Conservatory of Music in Geneva, Switzerland (2004). She has performed and taught in Europe, US and South America. She has recorded with the Ensemble Elyma (Switzerland, 1997), Musica ficta (Colombia, 2007), Esfera Armoniosa; www.esferaarmoniosa.com (Colombia, 2009, and 2015). After moving to the USA in 2009, she collaborated in the Early Music program at the Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida. Then, in California, where she lived for ten years, she was a guest conductor at several Recorder Workshops, and served as a member of the faculty of the SFEMS Recorder Workshop. She has also played many times as a soloist in the Santa Cruz Baroque Music Festival and with different ensembles in the area like the California Bach Society, the American Bach Soloists, and the Farallon Recorder Quartet. As a teacher, Claudia was part of the faculty in the Community School and Music and Arts in Mountain View until she returned to Florida on June 2021.
Four sessions:
Tuesdays: 05/09, 05/16, 05/23, 05/30-2023
Time: 5pm to 6pm (ET) 2pm to 3pm (PT) ;
Outline: Bartolomeo da Selma y Salaverde was a great composer from Spain, he was very influenced by all the Italian great masters in the early baroque period. He was a virtuoso dulcian player, but many of his music can be played in the recorder. I suggest to use sopranos and tenors for this workshop and let’s discover together some divisions, sonatas, and dances composed by this terrific composer.
You will receive a folder with all the music that we will be performing for this workshop ahead of time.
Each individual class is $25 (I will need at least three students to start this class).
