Capitol Early Music presents:

Celebrating its 35th season, the Peabody Renaissance Ensemble joins forces with the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company and the Baltimore Baroque Band to present music and scenes from Shakespeare and excerpts from Purcell’s Tempest.

Every five years the Peabody Renaissance Ensemble travels to Washington to share its musicianship and creativity with our community. Mark Cudek, founder and director of the Ensemble, retires at the end of next season. So, this is his final visit to Washington with the Ensemble.

Playing the recorder brings us great joy on many levels, including the sense of accomplishment we feel when it goes well from beginning to end! But along the way, when little mistakes happen, such as playing the wrong note (or fingering) or stumbling on a rhythm, the temptation is often to correct it on the spot. In this workshop we will practice ways for you to find your way back into the music if should you lose your place. We’ll listen carefully to the music and learn to understand what is heard – in your own part as well as in others. Even if you’re playing from a single part rather than a score, you can learn how to catch up with the rest of the ensemble in the recording, and never let on that you were lost in the first place.

*for folks who play violin/fiddle, viola, cello, bass, mandolin, soprano recorder, and alto recorder*

During these workshops we will play and discuss tunes from the “Ukrainian Fiddle Tunes for Two” series. For the most part different tunes will be played at each session. A treble clef version of the sheet music for the tunes being played will be displayed on Zoom’s screen during the workshop. The cost for each workshop is $10.00. The cost of each optional book is $15.00 (includes shipping within the U.S. if ordered with workshop registration).
