We’ll play music from the late 1400’s up to early 1600’s by anonymous (Glogauer Liederbuch), Ludwig Senfl, Robert Cooper and Thomas Campian. These pieces are varied in their style, character and complexity so there will be something for everyone. All the while I’ll throw in bits of advice for better tone, fleeter fingers, getting enough air, varied articulation, etc. We’ll cap it all off with Bach’s Prelude no. 4 from the Clavierbüchlein.
The zoom meeting will open at 10:30, with the workshop beginning at 10:45. Lunch will be from 12:00 to 12:45, with the afternoon session running from 12:45 to 2:00 PM. For information about the SBRS chapter or workshop, contact Kraig Williams at kraigwillliams@alumni.stanford.ed or visit the SBRS website at southbayrecorders.com
Fee for the workshop is $50. Music will be available about two weeks before the workshop. A link to access it will be sent then to those who have registered. This month we're getting into French Baroque ornamentation! We're up for another 90-minute Online Course on French Baroque ornamentation, its origins and application to the repertoire: our Online Course on Sunday March 19!
The course will provide an in-depth exploration of the ornamentation techniques used in French Baroque Music, where we will go into their practical application to musical pieces. We will study the different types of ornaments used during this period, including trills, mordents (battement / pincé), appoggiaturas (port de voix), flattement, etc… We will also examine the historical context in which these ornaments emerged and how they were used by the early Baroque composers for the Airs de Cour, as well as include the importance of the dance forms of the time.
