8/3/2024 | The Rose & The Briar Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado collaborates with Chivalrous Crickets to present a transatlantic tour. Emigrants from the British Isles packed their bags for the nascent land of America with their stories and tunes in tow, their music settling in the Appalachian hills. Here new instruments picked up old melodies and historical ballads took on a life of their own. Centered on the ballad of Barbara Allen, compositions include those by Henry Purcell, John Playford, Niel Gowell, Jeremiah Ingles, ballads collected by Francis James Child, and tunes composed by the collective hands of generations of fiddlers and pipers. If you have never played recorder before, or if it has been eons ago since you have played, this is the course for you! Build a solid foundation for learning recorder through the American Recorder Society’s 4-part beginners’ course for alto recorder starting on August 6, 2024. Professional recorder teacher and performer Jody Miller will lead you through this course and help you build good recorder technique from the start. Jody’s background includes working with middle school through senior adults; his patient approach will help you gain the skills in tone production, articulation, and technique needed to advance to the next level. 8/13/2024 | The Old Avoca Schoolhouse in Avoca, Nebraska will be streaming three online Mozart Family Duets Workshops for violins, violas, cellos, basses, mandolins, soprano recorder, and alto recorder. The “Mozart Family Duets” collection features 38 pieces by three generations of the Mozart family: Leopold Mozart (1719 - 1787), his son, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791), and his son, Franz Xavier Wolfgang Mozart (1791 - 1844). The Workshops will be on Tuesday, August 13, 7 PM, Central Time, Wednesday, August 14, 10 AM, Central Time, and Friday, August 16, 7 PM, Central Time. Different tunes will be played at each session. We will read, play, and discuss various survival skills for these charming pieces.
