Event Description

ARS introduces our next Free Online Beginners' Course!
If you have never played recorder before, or if it has been eons since you have played, this is the course for you! Build a solid foundation for learning recorder through this 4-part beginners’ course for Soprano (Descant) or Tenor recorder starting on September 22nd, 2020. Professional recorder player and teacher Tish Berlin will cover basics such as hand and finger position, tonguing, and tone, and instill good habits for continuing to learn on your own or with a teacher.  All ages are welcome, but children should be joined by an adult during the classes.

This course will use the following method book which provides excellent methodical exercises to learn fingerings, while providing simple tunes to satisfy the soul!
The Sweet Pipes Recorder Book: A method for adults and older beginners by Gerald Burakoff and William E. Hettrick.  Soprano, Book One.  SP2313.

Dates:
Tuesday, September 22, 10 a.m. PDT (1 p.m. EDT, 12 p.m. CDT, 11 a.m. MDT)

Thursday, October 1, 10 a.m. PDT (1 p.m. EDT, 12 p.m. CDT, 11 a.m. MDT)

For this course, you will need the Sweet Pipes Recorder Book and your choice of soprano or tenor recorder. Consider purchasing these from one of our business partners, and please allow ample time for mail delivery!

Do you need to purchase a soprano or tenor recorder? Tish says, "I recommend that you purchase a tenor if you have larger hands, and a soprano if you have smaller hands.  Both sizes use C fingerings. I recommend buying a good plastic recorder, rather than a cheap wooden one. Yamaha makes very good plastic recorders."

The models linked below are recommended as quality instruments at modest prices. Please stick to a model number that starts with 3 or 4 (for example YRS-302BIII or YRS-402  for sopranos or YRT-304B for tenors)
