Dance Tune and The Imp
By David Lussier Summer 2000

SATB

"Dance Tune" and "The Imp" are two folk dance pieces taken from the folk opera Turns and Birdsongs. Lively and fun to play.
--David Lussier

A fun, easy SATB quartet in two short sections, each with its own title and tuneful melodies. The composer marks the roadmaps for us: AABBA in "Dance Tune" and AABAA in "The Imp;" the section letters A and B appear in the parts,  but not in the score. Dance Tune is in 6/8, and The Imp changes to 2/2 with triplets placed next to dotted-8th+16th figures. The dotted figures are to be played in a "strict 4", in contrast to the triplets. Interesting surprise accidentals and frequent unisons make this piece a worthwhile selection for intermediate players and up.
