Solo recorder in F

I wrote the beginning and ending sections many years ago as a piano composition and returned to the melody when I began playing Native American flute. The middle section developed while improvising on a Baroque-style alto recorder. Eventually, I recreated the piece for solo flute or recorder. It's kind of a companion to another of my pieces available here on the Society's Music Library called Red Cedar. Both recall the ambiance of being in the woods, surrounded by trees, birds, wildlife and water.

A beautiful and easy solo for alto recorder, in a mostly pentatonic minor mode evocative of the woods. It tells a complete story in only 25 measures, staying grounded in the comfortable range of the instrument, just three low F’s. This melodic piece pairs well with the composer’s other solo, “Red Cedar”.
