Composition -
O Be Joyful

S, soprano Voice

The recorder obbligato reflects the jubilant tone of Psalm 100. This setting is suitable for a church service or recital. Denise Williams, soprano, sings to the composer's accompaniment. Duration: 2'15"
-- Anthony St. Pierre

Reminiscent of a Bach cantata aria with obbligato accompaniment, this recorder-voice duo flows gently in undulating waves. The recorder part is fairly busy with constant support for the vocalist, and might be Moderate in difficulty for some players. It sits mostly in the comfortable center range of the recorder, briefly dipping to low C and up to high A. Some ornaments and trills add sparkle, and the piece ends with a glorious scale run up from low D to middle D. Try it with tenor recorder. The vocal range covers low C up to high G, suitable for an experienced tenor voice an octave lower.
