'In nomine' ('In the name of [God...]') was a popular cantus firmus among English Renaissance composers. The present setting introduces many anachronistic harmonies. By turns, all four parts present the tune. The Prince Consort performs on the accompanying recording. Duration: 2:30
-- Anthony St. Pierre
A new fantasia for SATB on the English Renaissance melody. Beautiful and flowing, the various guises of the tune are labeled in the music to encourage the players to recognize it when it’s their turn. The music uses most of the full range on all instruments, including high and low C’s in the soprano. Fun tempo and meter changes mix up the tune and surrounding commentary, some finger vibrato and occasional harmonic surprises keep it all engaging. Pair this one up with an Elizabethan/Jacobean In nomine for a historical perspective, at your next play-in.
