Composition - - American Recorder Society
Fantasia No. 2 a4
By William Byrd (1543 - 1623)
 Arranged By Peter Seibert 2023

S A T B or A T B Gb

In two transcriptions S A T B and A T B Gb

As with all of Byrd’s fantasias, this work was written for viol consort. At the beginning, it is systematically imitative, but thereafter imitation appears peppered through the work, often in fragmentary form within phrases. It all makes for interesting playing. At letter C, there starts an eight-measure finale that is repeated verbatim for a resounding ending.

Difficulty: Intermediate and above.
-- Peter Seibert
