Look Down, O Lord
By William Byrd (1540 - 1623)
 Arranged By Peter Seibert 2022

One of many well-known English language choral works by Byrd, this piece has interesting imitation, long lines to play, and clear breaks between phrases. Be sure to breathe at all punctuation marks, and work for ensemble precision in starting “O clear my soul” and “Freed from my sin.” In the second half of the piece are several long phrases on a single syllable. Try to play these passages as smoothly as possible.
