Composition -
Four Follies for Three
By Anthony St. Pierre March 2022

A T B

In this easy setting, each recorder presents, by turn, a variation on La Folia to the accompaniment of the others. The first variation (alto) is built on the fifth scale degree. The second variation (tenor) is founded on the third degree, and the third variation (bass) on the first degree, as in the original form of the tune. In the final variation, the parts pass the tune around.

Duration: 3'00"

A new set of Follies for ATB, with description and explanation from the composer included. These are easy, short pieces, intentionally easier than other Follies in the composer’s collection, with much fewer accidentals. The upper two parts get a little florid in the third variation featuring the Bass, but it is all scalar motion and falls easily under the fingers.
