The basic melody of “Sea Breeze” was composed in 1976 as “Nocturne” for 2 Recorders with a 2/4 time signature. In early 2021 I changed the title, time signature, instrumentation and also extended the musical idea to make much more of the accompaniment. Here the original tune played on the Soprano recorder represents the sea breeze coming off the sea while the 3 lower recorders mainly on parallel harmonies represent the rise and fall of waves coming up to the shoreline.

A beautiful and approachable melody in the Soprano above undulating waves in the ATB below. The Alto line fits easily on Tenor as well. The music is nice and easy, even when the key changes to 5 sharps for a brief moment- a perfect chance to get familiar with a key we don’t see often enough, as the music moves slowly enough to stay in key. A couple passes through, and those sharps will be no problem! The real focus is on the wave shapes, not the key signature.
