Bergerette (Sans roch) from Susato’s “Dancerye,” published in 1551. This tune must certainly have existed as a popular song of the early or mid 16th Century, though I have no clue of its origin. It is simply a delight to play with its easy swings back and forth between feeling triple and duple. I don’t know another melody that is anything like this one.
