During the year Petra is conducting the ensemble Flutes and More usually at different places. Of course Christmas-Time is a special time. Last year at a shopping mall some percussion instruments were added to the sound of the  recorders within a rather popular program. Now she has asked me to compose some more pieces with longer introductions to traditional songs. Even here using percussion may be useful.

Here are 8 short original SATB holiday pieces based on Lutheran hymns. These German melodies are not part of the normal holiday repertoire in the United States but they certainly deserve to be. All 8 are easily accessible to intermediate players, and even advanced beginners will be able to find their way. The sections of each carol are labeled in German, such as “Intonation” (opening chant) and “Zwischenspiel” (interlude), some have repeats, and all sit in a very comfortable rage on each size of instrument. A cover page describes in English and German the story behind the compositions and the composer.
