Reflections of Geese

Tenor recorder

Where water meets sky, geese drift through a quiet light that reflects in both our sight and our thoughts. This piece began as an eight-measure melody sketched while testing a new MIDI keyboard. The idea stayed with me, and I developed it into a complete work for tenor recorder with guitar or piano accompaniment.

In the downloadable MP3 audio track, the tenor recorder is supported by acoustic guitar and bass guitar. A light piano accompaniment, guided by the included chord symbols, would also work well.

A beautiful melodic solo with chordal accompaniment for tenor recorder or transverse flute, full of tranquil imagery and introspection. Interesting chord changes and a distinct cadential shape keep the music engaging, and the low technical demands invite expressiveness while remaining accessible to a wide range of playing levels. The chords can be played on guitar, lute, keyboard or harp; the provided recording offers one possible approach with acoustic and bass guitars. A bass recorder could also play the chord notes if another instrument is not available, and the solo line works on its own without accompaniment too.
