Event Description
The Barbary Coast Recorder Orchestra (BCRO), co-directed by Greta Haug-Hryciw and Glen Shannon, will present their 15th season concert “Moodscapes” on Saturday March 14 at 2pm, in Berkeley, CA. The music will span the centuries from Dufay through the Beatles and feature the U.S. premier of Glen Shannon’s “Alpine Moods” arranged specially for BCRO. Other selections include recorder arrangements of pieces by Edward Elgar, Charles Gounod, Dmitri Shostakovich, Andrew Challinger and a mid-Renaissance keyboard work by Martin Peerson (1571-1651) and introduced to us last September by Jennifer Carpenter. This year's concert is dedicated to Dan Lapsansky (1945-2026), our dear friend and member of BCRO from its inception. Dan loved to play the giant recorders!
This event is an ideal opportunity to introduce listeners, including families with young children, to the joy and beauty of the entire recorder family. Questions about the instruments will be invited and encouraged at the end of the performance.
BCRO has recorders from TINY to TITAN creating a wonderful rich sound! Donations gratefully accepted at the door.
BCRO is an Educational Outreach program of Voices of Music, voicesofmusic.org.
