BC (Canada) Recorder Society presents a workshop on The Art of Polyphony: A beginner's guide to interpreting Renaissance music with Laura Kuhlman.

Polyphony: the style of simultaneously combining a number of parts, each forming an individual melody and harmonizing with each other. We'll learn how those parts fit together: finding phrases, finding cadences, moving between duple and triple meters within the same piece, and more.

Duets and trios will lay the foundation for our study of polyphony. We will use compositions by some of the best composers of the late Medieval to the Renaissance. If you are new to understanding this compositional style or want a brush up, you are invited to join the conversation and playing session.
