The Mid-Peninsula Recorder Orchestra, formed in 1962, is looking forward to an exciting sixty-third season beginning with its first meeting on September 8. The orchestra has planned an ambitious and highly varied program which it will be working on in preparation for a concert that it will present in December. There will be a diverse choice of musical selections, ranging from the 16th to the 20th centuries that will include a light-hearted chanson by Pierre Passereau featuring the orchestra’s double reeds, selections from Henry Purcell’s incidental music to The Double Dealer, a character piece, entitled Sarabande, by Claude Debussy and two lively Klezmer dances. The highlight of the program will be the Concerto for Flautino by Antonio Vivaldi which contains some of the most brilliant and virtuosic writing for the recorder ever composed. Featured in the concerto will be Vinayak Vikram, the youngest member of the orchestra, who, although in his early teens, is already an accomplished and outstanding recorder soloist. Those who would like to participate in this exceptional program are invited to join the Mid-Peninsula Recorder Orchestra either in person or virtually with a participating membership for those who wish to play in the orchestra or an associate membership for those who wish to attend meetings on line. Participating membership is open without audition to anyone who knows the basics of the recorder or other early wind or string instrument and is able to read and play the music provided at the orchestra's bimonthly meetings.
