These pieces were sketched one January morning over coffee in a small cafe in New York. As with much of my music,Tracings was built upon short ideas that are explored from different perspectives. Harmonies shift, accompanying a subtly changing motive. Or the motive shifts between voices. Or accompanying patterns form ostinato patterns resembling the endlessly varied repetitive patterns of snow and ice.
