Chaconne, from The Gordion Knot Unty’d By Henry Purcell (1659-1695) S A T B We don’t have the script or even the name of the playwright, but we do have the music. Henry Purcell’s chaconne is part of a posthumously published collection of music for theater that the English composer wrote sometime after 1690. Arranged here for SATB recorders by the fabulous arranger Eric Haas, this chaconne from The Gordion Knot Unty’d, a stage play from 1691, is immensely enjoyable, featuring a challenging bass part and intricacy amongst all four voices. Trills may be added where appropriate.
