This workshop has been held in the city of Tacoma on the lovely campus of the University of Puget Sound since 2009. There are direct shuttles available from SeaTac airport to the University’s Trimble Hall if needed, and overnight hospitality may be possible before and/or after the workshop with one of our gracious Seattle Recorder Society or Pacific Northwest Viols members.
Check-in and housing will be on Sunday July 7th between 12:00 – 4:00pm in Trimble Hall. After dinner, the workshop will officially begin at 7:30 pm with faculty introductions, a general orientation and a playing session for all. Classes begin on Monday July 8th at 9:00 am and will run through Friday afternoon at 5 pm. Saturday July 13th is devoted entirely to informal performances where participants can share what they have worked on if desired, and then concludes with lunch. Those planning to fly out of SeaTac on July 13th should book flights no earlier than 3:00 pm.
Special evening activities will include an all workshop event led by composer Sören Sieg on Monday, English Country dancing on Tuesday, a faculty concert on Thursday (one of the highlights of the week), and a costumed salmon banquet on Friday. Participants may invite guests to any of the evening activities for free, however there will be a separate charge for guests for the salmon banquet.
Wednesday afternoon is entirely free. Some participants carpool to nearby Point Defiance, or wander in to town while others prefer to remain on campus to play music, form impromptu ensembles, or just relax.
