Step 3 Soprano/Tenor Recorder Classes

Voices of Music Presents: A Mighty Wind - Renaissance Wind Instruments

Join Voices of Music as Early Music Superstar Rotem Gilbert, professor at USC Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles (CA) talks about the fabulous wind instruments from the Renaissance that she plays (including recorders, of course) and has researched extensively in literature and iconography.  ARS members and early wind players throughout the U.S. have enjoyed workshop classes with Rotem and appreciate the depth of her knowledge which she imparts with clarity and delightful style. Please join us for this fascinating hour. The lecture will be recorded and available to ticket holders for viewing at a later date if unable to attend the live streamed event.

Playing Telemann's Fantasias for Solo Flute/Recorder

The Highland Park Recorder Society (NJ) Seminar Series continues with Playing Telemann's Fantasias for Solo Flute/Recorder.  Flutist Jill Crawford and Lewis Baratz will lead participants through the technical and stylistic challenges offered by these wonderful solo pieces.  Participants will have an opportunity to experiment and play along.  7:15 PM meet and greet (NYC time), 7:30 start.

Recorder Masterclass with Lewis R. Baratz

The Princeton Recorder Society's annual fundraising event this year is a special recorder masterclass featuring by Lewis R. Baratz.  Participants in the class will receive 1/2 of technical and stylistic coaching on a work of their choice.  Auditors will benefit from watching the coaching sessions of 4 recorder players of different levels.  The fee to be a full participant is $30 (limited to four persons); auditors are $15.  This is a special event and is open to all interested persons including recorder players, players of other instruments, singers, and fans of early music.  Registration in advance at our website (link below).

The Swinging Recorder: ​Adding jazz to your musical vocabulary, ​with Vincent Lauzer

Looking to take a breather from the traditional Renaissance and Baroque recorder fare? This workshop on jazzing up your repertoire will add new tools to your recorder playing and get you swinging. The two-hour session will be led by virtuoso and versatile recording artist and teacher Vincent Lauzer of the Québec ensemble Flûte Alors. ARS online event with Melika Fitzhugh, composer of the 2021 Play the Recorder Month piece, Transparent Letters Across the Sky. This will be followed by a Zoom-group play-in of the piece. Denver Recorder Society meeting led by Annette Bauer

The Denver Recorder Society continues their 2020-21 virtual season (third Sunday of every month) on Sunday, March 21, 2021, from at 2-3:30 PM MST. Professional recorder player Annette Bauer will lead this chapter meeting on Zoom, preceded by the chapter's "newbies" session for less-experienced players. All are welcome.

A native of Germany, Annette Bauer studied Medieval and Renaissance music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland, specializing on recorder techniques with Conrad Steinmann (2001). She is also certified in the Orff-Schulwerk method. Bauer has appeared as guest artist with leading early music ensembles throughout the U.S.--including appearing in Cirque du Soleil's Totem.
