Join me for a survey of four sonatas from different regions of the Baroque Eurozone, all written for the alto recorder. We’ll look at sonatas by Telemann, Mancini, Parcham and van Wassenaer, all of which prompt the usual questions about tempo, articulation, ornamentation, etc., but also contain ’magic moments’ that draw upon our creative imagination.
 
With an hour on each piece there’s just enough time to get our feet wet, but you’ll leave each session with a greater musical curiosity, and lots of ideas to guide a deeper dive into the music.
 
For alto recorder players at an upper intermediate level or higher.
Flutists and other treble instrumentalists who wish to explore the repertoire are welcome.
 
Music and mp3s of the bass line provided.
Pitch: 440 and 415 (bass lines provided at both).
 
 
Course fee: Cad $45 or US $40
