Treasure Hunt: A journey to uncover alluring gems for solo recorder, a workshop with Matthias Maute
Workshop Online Event
The beauty of the solo repertoire for the recorder lies in the exploration of the unexpected beauty of solitude. What might feel like a prison of loneliness can be transformed into the freedom of wide open spaces. In this workshop, Montreal recorderist and conductor extraordinaire Matthias Maute teases out what it means to be bound by musical parameters while simultaneously forging our own path through the luxuriant jungle of expression and musical drama. Exercises and play-along moments will provide the opportunity to try musical techniques, to ensure we stay grounded amidst the endless possibilities. Among works by J.S. Bach and van Eyck, you will also play compositions by Hook, Maute, and the Duke of Norfolk that were written for more than one instrument but are also effective solo pieces.
