A Season of Chamber Music

Advanced and Intermediate Ensembles Online

Come play Chamber Music
with acclaimed performers
John Tyson - recorders
Miyuki Tsurutani - recorders, harpsichord

We are delighted to announce a unique ensemble class series for all musicians. Join us and explore a wonderful variety of beautiful music from Renaissance to contemporary.

Live Chamber Music! All live interaction, no recordings. This means that you will hear Miyuki and John playing all combinations of two voices of every piece. We will play each piece several times so that you have the opportunity of changing instruments and/or voices, discovering all the voices and hearing the complete piece while playing your own part.

We will also play Baroque Trio Sonatas with harpsichord continuo. You can play both upper voices along with John playing the other. You can also switch to the bass voice and fill out the continuo along with the harpsichord.

Repertoire will include:

Renaissance Chansons, Madrigals, Dances

Baroque Trio Sonatas Contemporary and Popular Music and More!

All repertoires are selected to be friendly to
Recorders, Bowed and Plucked, Strings, Reed and Brass instruments All instruments are welcome!
All sheet music will be at concert pitch

From the participants:

“Sitting 3,000 miles distant, but playing live with both recorder and harpsichord was an experience that I truly looked forward to every week!”

“The ninety minutes really flew by as we cruised through four centuries of music.”

“I enjoyed the Zoom Season of Chamber Music very much because I play best when I play with other people. Playing those pieces repeatedly every week really helped me learn them.”

“It’s good that the class is on Zoom and the more experienced players could not hear me and my errors!”

“The sessions worked wonderfully. The choice to focus on trios was brilliant.”

“The zoom fidelity worked well enough for pleasure and particularly well to work on tuning.”

“The ensemble class works surprising well, with everyone working at their own pace and at their level of instruction!”

“It was amazing to listen to John and Miyuki’s skilled feedback and instruction for our mixed level ensemble. They are a joyous pair and it is a unique opportunity to learn from them!”

“For each piece, they rotated the "open" part, so we students had an opportunity to play "live" as part of a trio, and we were able to try all parts in succession. The method worked beautifully.”

“I also really enjoyed being surrounded by excellent musicians - composers, instrument makers, teachers.”

“All the trios we played, whether contemporary, renaissance, or baroque allowed all the participants to play the various parts and feel the experience of playing contemporaneously.”
