Capitol Early Music Workshop with New World Recorders
Spend a day with the members of New World Recorders (performers and teachers extraordinaire Rainer Beckman, Hèloïse Degrugillier, Priscilla Herreid, and Gwyn Roberts) exploring the delights of 17th century English music through the fantasias and chaconnes of Henry Purcell, his contemporaries and predecessors.
9:30 am - 4:30 pm
St. George's Episcopal Church 915 N. Oakland St. Arlington, VA 22203
This workshop is open to intermediate and advanced recorder players who play SATB and alto8ve.
The day will be divided into four class periods with mid-morning, lunch, and mid-afternoon breaks. We start with an all-workshop first period led by Gwyn Roberts on "Form in Fantasy," discussing the characteristic forms of, and playing our way through, a fantasia. The remaining three periods will be consort size classes focusing on fantasias of Purcell and others, and on chaconnes, the delightful dance form that uses variation technique.
