Double Take: Musical Pairings through the Ages
Chicago Recorder Quartet (CRQ) continues its tradition of inventive programming and explores unique musical combinations and juxtapositions, finding similarities and uncanny common themes in different musical forms and eras. You'll hear a traditional Bach prelude and fugue paired with one written in 1999 (Maute) and two instrumental settings of the sacred Da Pacem Domine ("Give peace, Lord"): one by early 20th-century Estonian composer Arvo Pärt and the other from the Franco-Flemish tradition of the 16th century. Chicago Recorder Quartet invites you to experience further a German suite (Poser) and African suite (Sieg) whose rhythms give voice to indigenous musical traditions continents apart. Join CRQ as they pair the old with the new!
