Event Name:Spring is in the Air: Music for winds and strings
Event Type(s):Concert
Laura Thompson, Artistic Director

Bacchanalia Baroque Ensemble presents a program of music for winds and strings, including rarely heard flute concertos by Johann Joachim Quantz and Jacques-Christophe Naudot, plus Georg Philipp Telemann’s concerto for flute and recorder. Ms. Thompson will perform the Naudot concerto on baroque piccolo, at the suggestion of Michel Corrette (1707-1795), who states that: “In Paris, small octave flutes are now being made, which have a charming effect in the tambourines and concertos specially for the flute…” The comical suite for strings Burlesque of Don Quixote, also by Telemann, rounds out the program.
Founded by flutist Laura Thompson in 2001, Bacchanalia Baroque Ensemble is devoted to giving spirited and authentic performances of baroque and early classical music on period instruments. Focusing on repertoire for winds and strings, Bacchanalia aims to re-create the intimacy and elegance of musical performances of the 18th century.
