The concert is composed of pieces written in honor of 3 Queens of England: Elizabeth I, Victoria, and Elizabeth II. We will be joined by tenor Steve Padilla for selections from The Triumphs of Oriana, Choral Songs in Honor of her Majesty Queen Victoria, and A Garland for the Queen. The Triumphs are collection of madrigals published in 1601 dedicated to Queen Elizabeth I. Inspired by the earlier Triumphs for Queen Victoria’s 80th birthday thirteen composers created the collection Choral Songs in Honor of her Majesty Queen Victoria. In 1953 for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II ten contemporary British composers followed their predecessors and published a collection of songs A Garland for the Queen.

Steve will also join LARO to premier Rough Winds a setting of three Shakespeare sonnets by Peter Seibert commissioned by LARO in 2017.
