SUMMARY:Port Townsend Early Music Workshop
LOCATION:Trimble Hall, University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, WA
DESCRIPTION:Port Townsend Early Music Workshop\n\n07/07/19 07:00 PM EST\n - 07/13/19 07:00 PM EST\Description:\nThe Port Townsend Early Music Workshop offers an exciting week-long opportunity for players of recorder, viol, early winds, percussion as well as singers to immerse themselves in music of the Middle Ages, Renaissance, French Baroque, Contemporary, Brazilian and African, and much, much more. Most classes are geared towards players with reliable technique and reading skills, but there is always a place for those who feel they are less experienced or rusty, or coming back to music after a long break. Many of our participants agree that our workshop is one of the most friendly and inclusive of any they have attended. If you are in doubt as to your abilities, please do not hesitate to contact Artistic Director Vicki Boeckman so that we may talk in person. Additionally, if you are unable to attend for the entire week but wish to audit some classes, please contact Administrative Director Jo Baim.  workshop@seattle-recorder.org\n\nThis workshop has been held in the city of Tacoma on the lovely campus of the University of Puget Sound since 2009. There are direct shuttles available from SeaTac airport to the University’s Trimble Hall if needed, and overnight hospitality may be possible before and/or after the workshop with one of our gracious Seattle Recorder Society or Pacific Northwest Viols members.\n\nCheck-in and housing will be on Sunday July 7th between 12:00 – 4:00pm in Trimble Hall.  After dinner, the workshop will officially begin at 7:30 pm with faculty introductions, a general orientation and a playing session for all. Classes begin on Monday July 8th at 9:00 am and will run through Friday afternoon at 5 pm. Saturday July 13th is devoted entirely to informal performances where participants can share what they have worked on if desired, and then concludes with lunch. Those planning to fly out of SeaTac on July 13th should book flights no earlier than 3:00 pm.\n\nSpecial evening activities will include an all workshop event led by composer Sören Sieg on Monday, English Country dancing on Tuesday, a faculty concert on Thursday (one of the highlights of the week), and a costumed salmon banquet on Friday. Participants may invite guests to any of the evening activities for free, however there will be a separate charge for guests for the salmon banquet. \n\nWednesday afternoon is entirely free. Some participants carpool to nearby Point Defiance, or wander in to town while others prefer to remain on campus to play music, form impromptu ensembles, or just relax.\Details:\n\nSchedule\n\nDaily Schedule\n\nSunday, July 7:\n\n	Check-in at Trimble Hall is between 12:00 – 4:00 pm\n	Dinner is served in the dining hall from 4:30 – 6:30\n	Orientation and tutti music playing session in the Rotunda 7:00 - 9:00 pm\n\n\nWednesday, July 10:\nPlease note this is a very different schedule!
